For Elmi Construction, the ‘journey of a thousand miles began with a single step’ in Eritrea in 1937. Originally known as Elmi Construction, the company started its journey by producing and supplying construction materials, laying the foundation for its future success. 

The establishment of a crushing plant by 1945 in Asmara marked a pivotal moment, enabling Elmi Construction to supply aggregates crucial for road and building construction. This laid the groundwork for the company’s involvement in Asmara’s road network construction and rehabilitation throughout the 1950s.

As the years passed, Elmi Construction expanded its horizons, venturing into building construction projects and civil works activities across Ethiopia by the mid-1960s. However, challenges arose in 1980, when most of the company’s assets were nationalised by the Dergue regime. Undeterred, Luigi Elmi, the company’s founder, displayed resilience and determination, relaunching the business in 1983 under a new name.

Today, with over 80 years of solid experience, Elmi Olindo Contractors PLC stands tall as a GRADE 1 GENERAL CONTRACTOR, firmly established as one of the leading construction firms in Ethiopia.
