The Heineken Managing Director Residence in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is a testament to balancing modern design with sustainable practices. Elmi Construction employed its vast experience and expertise in residential construction to craft a home that seamlessly blends modern amenities with timeless elegance. The project encompassed all aspects of construction, from meticulous foundation work to the final exquisite finishes.
Construction employed local materials whenever possible. The grey stone cladding on the guard’s house reflects the natural tones of the Ethiopian landscape. The main residence itself features a tasteful blend of materials. White stone flooring extends from the exterior patio into the house, along the main staircase. Light-colored oak wood flooring graces the living areas and bedrooms, while the bathrooms showcase beautiful cement tiles.
The architects prioritized passive climate control strategies. Since heating isn’t required, the concrete block walls were insulated with interior drywall to regulate temperature and enhance comfort for the residents. An external shell provides shade and protects windows from the strong sunlight, reducing reliance on air conditioning. These measures contribute to the residence’s overall energy efficiency.
